Researcher Rui Costa Neto will lead "Electrolysis Workshops" in which participants will make their own electrolysis cell to produce hydrogen, using an adapted 5V cell phone charger, with soup spoons, a glass beaker and caustic soda.

On October 27th takes place a seminar about the organization Doctors Without Borders within the scope of the Humanitarian Engineering UC. The lecture is open to all IST students interested in the subject.

The 6th Gago Conference on European Science Policy will be dedicated to Digital Global Observatories and will take place on 23-24 October 2023 in Barcelona.

On 6-8 of September takes place the 15th International Social Innovation Research Conference, dedicated to "Enhancing the multidisciplinarity of social innovation: bringing together the social sciences, engineering and technology". Deadline for extended abstracts is 28 February, 2023.

From 4 to 6 September 2023 takes place the 32nd Prospective Meeting at Convent of Arrábida. On 17 and 18 July, the 2023 LARSyS Annual Meeting takes places at Culturgest, in Lisbon, gathering reseachers from research centers IN+. ISR Lisboa, ITI and Maretec.

On June 30th, at the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge, will be presented the results of RELIABLE, a research project in the area of extreme weather events and the CLIMAEXTREMOS portal to identify buildings with higher risks under heat waves and cold waves. 

The Laboratory of Robotics and Engineering Systems is launching a Seminar series to foster cooperation between the four research units, to share information about research projects and learn best practices to apply to upcoming calls successfully.

The second Food for Thought session will be dedicated to the topic Climate Neutrality in Cities: Challenges for Lisbon. The guest speaker will be Catarina Freitas, Municipal Director for Environment, Green Infrastructure, Climate and Energy at the City Council of Lisbon.

The 'Food for Thought' talks explore topics of interest to IN+ researchers in an informal atmosphere, promoting debate and stimulating interaction between researchers and guest speakers. The first talk will be dedicated to the topic “Communicating science - the role of researchers”.

The 6th edition of the G-STIC Conference - Accelerating technological solutions for the SDGs takes place in Rio de Janeiro on 13-15 February, with the participation of Manuel Heitor.

Professor Manuel Heitor participates in a public debate with students on the Strategic Plan of Instituto Superior Técnico, promoted by the AEIST Journal DIFFERENCIAL.

Space and us: thinking and building the future is the topic of the inaugural class that will be taught by Manuel Heitor in the Aerospace Engineering course at the University of Minho, on 7th October at 2:30 pm.

The 5th Gago Conference on European Science Policy takes place on October 6th 2022 at Heidelberg and is dedicated to the topic Cancer research: society at the frontiers of knowledge.

The final event of the Circular EcoBIM project will take place on October 3rd between 4 and 6:30 pm, offering the possibility of in-person or virtual attendance. Registration is free but mandatory.

K4P - Knowledge for People, the Planet and Prosperity through Partnerships: Challenging the inclusive development of the Global South is the research seminar lectured Manuel Heitor on October 3rd at the Center for Urban Science and Progress at the New York University.

On the 30th September, Tiago Domingos will hold a seminar on Energy and Economic Growth. This event takes place at 6 PM, Room GA4 (main building) and is organized under the framework of Seminars in Innovation and Sustainable Development.

On 21 September, at the AICEP Global Parques facilities, in Sines, they day will be dedicated to the dissemination of Technological Infrastructure activities. Professor Paulo Ferrão will participate in the panel How to transition to a sustainable future?.

The role of artificial intelligence and big data in the automotive industry, the importance of R&D for the sector, the context of the digital and energy transition, electric versus hydrogen vehicles, mobility solutions and circular economy in the automotive industry, will be some of the topics covered at this conference.

Held annually since 1992, this Meeting is dedicated to promoting reflection and debate on prospective themes. Organized by Instituto de Prospetiva in collaboration with IN+/LARSyS, and with support from Fundação Oriente and Luso-American Development Foundation.

The 1st Conference of the Researcher Mental Health Observatory (ReMO 2022) takes place on 25th and 26th august, in a hybrid format, and will be dedicated to the topic Bridging Research and Practice in Fostering Healthy Academic Workplaces.

On June 6, from 2 pm unti 4 pm (GMT -3), Professor Manuel Heitor will give a seminar on Data ecology, knowledge and innovation in times of uncertainty, at Parque Tecnológico da UFRJ. The event will be broadcast.

On 26 May 2022, 1:00 pm–2:00 pm, Manuel Heitor will hold a talk on how to promote a transatlantic dialogue to better understand “Human Agency” and the need to guarantee responsible, climate-aware systems in complex landscapes in a decentralized and AI-supported digital age.

On May 25th, at 2 pm, Professor João Ventura will give the Seminar at DEM about life after retirement, particularly on his experience as a Master's student in Science Communication, as a fiction writer and other activities.

Hydrogen is touted as a solution to several challenges, but will it be possible to produce it using renewable energy and quickly scale its production for industrial use? Rui Costa Neto will participate in this talk on green hydrogen and its use in the industrial context.

The Science and Technology Summit in Portugal 2022 will take place on 16th, 17th and 18th May, in a hybrid format. Paulo Ferrão and Sónia Cunha (IN+/LARSyS) will participate on the 17th May.

On February 9th, at 2 pm, Dr. Ana Moita will give a seminar on "Micro-To-Macro Approach for (Micro)Cooling Systems for Industrial Applications". The event will take place at Amphitheater FA3.

The purpose of this training program is to provide industry and academia the technological and scientific pathways required for deployment of sustainable cost-effective large scale energy storage and conversion powered by renewable energies.

"Europe: Knowledge & Science Bridge Towards a Global Circular Economy" is the first major International Conference in Portugal on Circular Economy, organized by CECOLAB (Collaborative Laboratory for Circular Economy) under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

On December 10th, from 9h30 until 10h30, takes place the CIRCULAR ECOBIM KICK-OFF WEBINAR. The Circular EcoBIM project aims to create a set of BIM based tools to enable a circular construction model. The three tools that are proposed will help architects and building managers to improve the environmental performance and increase the amount of reused, recovered and recycled construction materials.

Due to the new corona virus outbreak, the Eighth International Advanced Course on Liquid Interfaces, Drops And Sprays (LIDESP 8) will not take place in Lisbon as planned. euvsvirus.org is an Europe-wide online hackathon organized by the most plugged in and nationally connected actors from all over Europe, that takes place on 24, 25 and 26 April 2020. 

Following developments relating to Coronavirus/COVID-19, the Instituto Superior Técnico decided to cancel all public events with more than 50 participants. Therefore, the organizers of the Space Seminar Series decided to cancel the forthcoming seminar by Chiara Manfletti for 19-March-2020, 11h00, hoping to reschedule it in the near future.

João Miguel Pires will defend his thesis entitled "Implications of New Burner Concepts and Legislation on Reducing the Environmental Impact of Domestic Water Heating Systems in the European Union", on January 10th 2020, at 2PM, at the amphitheater PA-3 (Floor -1 of Math pavillion) of Técnico Lisboa.

Technology cost drivers for a potential transition to decentralized manufacturing is the title of the IN+ seminary that will take place on October 18th, at 11am in the DEM Meeting Room (Mecânica III building). The lecture will be given by Jaime Bonnin Roca, a CMU Portugal program Alumnus in Engineering and Public Policy.

On September 20th will take place the IN+ Get Together, an event for IN+ community to get to foster a stronger relationship, as well as to sharing experiences, knowledge, challenges and solutions.

In order to enhance its training and to ensure a better quality of teaching at IST, the Scientific Council, with the support of the Academic Development Center, promotes a training program in teaching techniques specially oriented to teaching assistants with limited pedagogical experience.

On 4 and 5 July, from 9h to 18h, IN+ will be offering a free Introductory Course in OpenFOAM CFD Toolbox, lectured by Prof. Anastasios Georgoulas. The two days course includes theory and hands-on exercises that will introduce participants to CFD and OpenFOAM.

The first session of IP Days@Técnico 2019 will take place on 27th June, at 12.30 p.m., in iStart room. The session will be attended by engineer Jorge Cunha, patent examiner at INPI, who will clarify the audience doubts on the topic “Is my idea patent-worthy?”

The conference “Academia meets the Auto-Industry” will take place on 16th and 17th may, at Alameda campus (Salão Nobre).

The first day of the conference will focus on the topic The Future of Automotive Industry and the second day will be devoted to the subject Research into the Future of Vehicle Technology.

February 22nd (Friday), Miguel Reis Bandrão, an Associate Professor at KTH will present a seminar entitled Do bioenergy systems mitigate climate change: insights from Life Cycle Assessment?, from 10am to 11am at PA1.

Nowadays, everyone is aware of how much energy costs have an impact on a company’s account. The opportunity to maximize useful outputs by consuming the least primary inputs possible is the goal when one is studying efficiency of energy systems. Friday, December 7, lectured by Henrique Matos, at 4PM, room V0.15.

The last years has seen a rising number of alternatives regarding vehicle technology and the promotion of the mobility-as-a-service concept. This seminar focuses on some of these solutions and explores how their adoption can be promoted, as well as what their energy and environmental impacts are expected to be.

On November 21 there will be a presentation session of the book "Tudo Isto Existe" ("All This Exists") by João Ventura, from IN+. In this book, the author gathers a selection of his best short fictions.

The FIRST project has its first workshop during the ENERGY DAY conference, on November 15th 2018, organized by LNEG. The objective of this workshop is to discuss with academia, governmental agencies and industry the advantages of mapping urban energy systems and its features, in particular load flexibility.

Friday, November 9, at 4 p.m., will take place in room V0.15, the seminar Renewing the approach to renewals: microfluidic solutions to enhance the energy conversion in solar panels, lectures by Ana Moita from IN+, under the series of Seminars on Sustainable Energy Systems.

On October 30th, at 4:30 p.m., room V1.06 (Pav. Civil, Alameda), a session on intellectual property, integrated in the initiative Dias da PI@Técnico, will be held on the topic How to write the claims of an invention?. This training session will be especially useful for those who intend to apply for a patent application or potential applicants, but it is not necessary to have knowledge of IP or direct contact with a request.

Friday, October 26, at 4 p.m., will take place in room V0.15, the seminar Techno-economic analysis and optimization of electrochemical energy storage solutions, given by Guido Lorenzi from IN+. This will be the forth seminar on the series of Seminars on Sustainable Energy Systems.

Friday, October 19th, Professor Carlos Santos Silva will give a seminar on Introduction to PhD in Engineering. The lecture will take place in room V0.15 at 5pm. The objective of this seminar is to present the main steps to develop a PhD in engineering, provide a global overview on research methodologies that can be used to develop the PhD and describe the main guidelines for writing scientific reports and papers.

Next Friday, October 12, from 4pm to 6pm, at room V0.15, will take place the seminar on The fossil and renewable energy mix: towards a sustainable energy future, given by Professor Edgar Fernandes, Director of the Laboratory of Thermofluids, Combustion and Energy Systems of the IN+.

The workshop provides guidelines for data visualization based on theoretical advances on data visualization and good practices, and introduces a number of traditional and recent visualization techniques which can be applied to various scientific domains. The practical section also provides an overview of some tools for data visualization with various levels of complexity and learning curve.

Mobinov - Automobile Cluster Association, will hold on September 27th the conference The Future of Qualifications and Work in the Automobile Industry, which will discuss issues such as the characterization of employment in the automobile cluster, the future of the automotive industry and the challenges in terms of employment and professional qualification.

ISR will hold a seminar about Opportunities in Innovation, from the Technological System changes and the socioeconomical environment. IST's Department of Mechanical Engineering and the IN+ Center for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research will hold a seminar with Dr. Joana Portugal Pereira on the opportunities and limitations of integrated bioenergy and carbon capture and storage systems to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

The IST Transfer and Technology area is organizing next Thursday a session on "Patentability requirements". With the presence of trainers from the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), this session aims to present general concepts about the requirements for the granting of patents and utility models, as well as possible reasons for refusal of applications.

Next wednesday, September 12th, Dr. Roger R. Riehl will give a seminar on Nanofluids Application on the Development of High Performance Heat Dissipation Devices. Nanofluids have been applied to enhance the thermal performance of passive and active thermal control devices, in order to meet the current and future demand for heat dissipation. In face of the developments made so far, nanofluids have demonstrated great potential to enhance the thermal performance on both passive and active systems, which lead them to be used in final products.

Dr. Roger Riehl is a senior Thermal Control Specialist and Faculty at the Graduate School at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE)/Space Mechanics and Control Division (DMC) - Brazil, and Consultant for Thermal Management Systems for various military and aerospace projects.

IN+ welcomes the seminar Sequestration of Carbon Dioxide as Method for Green House Effect Mitigation - Overview to be given by Grzegorz Jodlowski (AGH UST) on April 24, 9H45. A panel discussion will be included in the seminar, with the participation of Marta Wójcik and Elzbieta Vogt from the same university. The event will take place on Civil Building; Room V1.16.

On April 20 (Friday), at the LEIS meeting, IN+ welcomes João Camargo, activist and researcher on Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies, to present his book Manual to Combat Climate Change. The meeting will take place in the amphitheater AM, Building Mecânica II, in Alameda Campus, at 10H00.

Three Mechanical Engineering students from Tecnico Lisboa will be awarded monetary prizes for their outstanding work in the context of the cooperation programme GALP 21. The Award Ceremony will take place on April 18, at 14H30, in GALP's Auditorium, Tower A. For the 11th edition of the programme, the jury, presided by Professor Moreira from IN+, selected the winners from the pool of works presented as the best energy efficiency projects.

Professor Elizabeth Duarte, from Instituto Superior de Agronomia, University of Lisbon, will give an open class on Biogas at the invitation of Professor Edgar Fernandes, on April 3 (Tuesday), from 12H00 to 13H30, at Room GA2 (Central Building).

Next friday, February 9, LEIS will have Michael Fell, from the Energy Institute of the University College of London, presenting the projects that his research group PACE develop in demand flexibility and consumer behavior. [Seminars at IN+] IN+ welcomes Professor Gustavo Dalmarco, a postdoctoral researcher on the project E4Value at INESC TEC and an associate professor at the Business School of PUCRS-Brazil, for a seminar on The Adoption of Industry 4.0 Technologies in Supply Chains. The event will take place on February 1, at 14H30 at DEM's Meeting Room (Mechanicals Building III).

Suscity researchers meet for the project's penultimate work meeting on January 25. On the occasion, IN+ welcomes colleagues from INESC TEC, UMinho, ADENE, among others. In program for the Suscity Technical Workshop and Executive Board Meeting is the assessment of the project's progress, which will find its conclusion in June of this year.

An event focused on what changes need to be promoted in areas such as training, financing, support for internationalization and the labor and tax framework of our new high growth companies, in order to promote a more "friendly" ecosystem for the digital economy. Colégio F3 organizes a series of seminars on "Urban Food Planning", to be held during the first half of 2018 at the Lisbon Urban Information Center (CIUL), always at 18:00, on the second Thursday of each month. The monitoring committee for João Pires' PhD thesis convenes on December 20, at 18H00, in EDAM Room, Mechanics Pavilion II. The meeting will provide a space for discussion and reflection on his research, under the title Strategies for Reducing Emissions in Gas-Fired Burners and their Role in the Future of Domestic Water Heater.

Professor Edgar Fernandes is a speaker at the 'Workshop in Particle Image Volecimetry', to be held on December 6, from 11H to 14H30, at Alameda Campus of Instituto Superior Técnico, Mechanics Building III, Room 3.3. PIV applications to practical cases will be discussed, including flow control studies, combustion flame diagnostics, and turbine tip-vortex visualization. Novel PIV techniques, such as stereoscopic, tomographic (3D) and soap-bubble based measurements will be addressed.

IN+ will host an information session for all its members on November 24 (Friday), from 10H00 to 11H00, at DEM’s Meeting Room, about Funding Opportunities: Horizon 2020 – Work Programme 2018-2020, by our Projet Manager Margarida Suarez.

Miguel Amaral, director of the Laboratory of Technology Management and Policy at IN+, organizes an open class about "Technology-Based Entrepreneurship" that will take place on Friday, November 24, from 13H30 to 14H30, in Room 1.11 in Taguspark, with Researcher João Mariano (ISCTE-IUL). In the context of a series of seminars on Disruptive Innovation and New Business Models, IN+ organizes a seminar on Intellectual Property given by Professor Mardson McQuay.

Anne McCants (MIT) and Eduardo Beira (IN+ and MIT Portugal Program) organized a workshop meeting convened in conjunction with the 2017 Polanyi Society Annual Meeting in Boston. The meeting will take place on November 18th, 2017, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the MIT, USA.

Next friday (November 17), Joana Pedro, IN+ researcher and a SES MIT-Portugal PhD student, will be presenting and discussing the project Urban sustainability assessment framework for Lisbon affordable housing, developed in partnership with the Lisbon Municipality, at the LEIS weekly meeting. The presentation will be at MIT-Portugal Room, at Taguspark, at 10h.

Tecnico Lisboa, through IN+, is partner in the ongoing collaborative research project Capacity building in Sustainability and Environmental Management CapSEM, funded by Erasmus+. In the frame of the research agreement, IN+ organizes an upcoming two-day working meeting to be held in Lisbon from the 15th to the 17th of November with partners from Uganda, Nepal, India, Norway and the Netherlands.

Next friday, 10th of November, Cláudia Sousa Monteiro, a SES MIT-Portugal PhD finalist will do a presentation on Introduction to Information Geographic Systems (GIS) at LEIS Weekly Meetings. The presentation includes a practical exercise with a specific dataset. The presentation will be at Room FA2, in the Informática I Building, in Alameda Campus, at 10H.

Next friday (October 27th) Felix Diawou, PhD student of SES MIT-Portugal Program, will do a presentation on: “Urbanisation” or “Ruralisation”: The dilemma of future residential electricity consumption in Ghana". The presentation will be at room FA2, in the Informática I Building, in Alameda Campus, at 10h.

Emanuele Teodori defends his PhD thesis on 20th October, at 10H00 in Amphitheatre PA-3 (Floor -1 of Mathematics Pavilion), on the Effect of customized surface properties on pool boiling heat transfer.

Jaime Bonnín Roca defends his PhD thesis on October 19th, at 14H in Room V0.15 of Civil Pavilion. We welcome anyone who wants to be present. His thesis on the topic of Leaders and followers: challenges and opportunities in the adoption of metal additive manufacturing technologies was supervised by Professor Joana Mendonça.
