:::CANCELED::: Portugal: through Space… to infinity and beyond… 19/03/2020

Following developments relating to Coronavirus/COVID-19, the Instituto Superior Técnico decided to cancel all public events with more than 50 participants. Therefore, the organizers of the Space Seminar Series decided to cancel the forthcoming seminar by Chiara Manfletti for 19-March-2020, 11h00, hoping to reschedule it in the near future.

The Space Seminar Series (S3) is a monthly multi-disciplinary seminar series at Instituto Superior Técnico. It is open to everybody, including students, researchers and staff members interested in space sciences and technology. The S3 will include world-renowned international invited speakers, who will present the latest research in the field and a preview of the future of space science.

Abstract: Portugal has been engaged in space activities for many years now. A national space agency - Portugal Space - was created a year ago. What does this even mean and what has changed? Stories and facts about the past, present and a long inspiring road into the future in all aspects of space for Portugal in 30 minutes...tighten your seat belts!

Bio: Chiara Manfletti has a dual Italian and German nationality. She holds a degree in aeronautical engineering from Imperial College London (2001), a masters degree in "space studies" from the International Space University (ISU) in Strasbourg (2002) and a PhD from German University of Aachen (2010). She also holds a masters in history from the UK Open University (2013). She worked for the German Aerospace Center, DLR, as a research engineer in the field of liquid rocket propulsion and later joined the European Space Agency (ESA) in 2016, where she has been the Programme Advisor to the Director General at the agency's headquarters in Paris. She is now the President of the Portuguese Space Agency, Portugal Space.
