Best paper award 02/09/2019

Rui Costa Neto, researcher at IN+, was awarded with the best paper by the scientific and organizing committees at the 5th International Conference on Power Generation Systems and Renewable Energy Technologies, held on August 26th and 27th at Instanbul, Turkey.

The paper, entitled "Modelling and experimenting thermal energy storage through the use of PCM in low thermal inertia office", analysed the use of phase change material (PCM) boards inside a shipping container as internal mass due to a structure specifically designed for the project. Results showed that these latent heat storage systems induced an indoor peak temperature shift of three hours and a slight indoor temperatures reduction, working an effective cooling system, suitable for warmer climates and capable of providing thermal comfort improvement. Conclusions demonstrate

The paper was co-authored by Duarte Drummond de Abreu, Rui Costa Neto, Laura Aelenei and Carlos A. Santos. "Modelling and experimenting thermal energy storage through the use of PCM in low thermal inertia office" was also the title of Duarte Drummond de Abreu’s PhD Thesis, with the supervision by Rui Costa Neto.
