Applications are welcome to 1 doctorate position. You will be working as part of the ‘Industrial Ecology and Sustainability’ Laboratory, a group that is growing and seeking highly motivated PhD candidates who wish to pursue research in Sustainability and Circular Economy areas, contributing to the reinforcement of the laboratory competencies.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
We are looking for people excited about innovation and technology, willing to develop research oriented to impact society. If you have already concluded your PhD and are interested in working in the assessment of environmental impacts of the texturing processes and products involved in the injection moulding in the automotive industry, medical hip implant system, and complex vapour chamber for a graphical card (GPU) cooling, this position could be for you!

We are looking for candidates with the following profile:

  • PhD in Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering or related scientific areas.
  • Experience with methods and tools for calculating the environmental and economic impacts of products and services (e.g., LCA and S-LCA, LCC, input and output analysis, material flow analysis), and including the European Taxonomy for Sustainable Activities.
  • Knowledge of software such as Sima-Pro, Gabbi or Open LCA.
  • Fluency in written and verbal communication in English.

YOUR ROLE

You'll integrate SustainablY aNd digitally driven hierarchical laser texturing for Complex Surfaces (SYNTECS) project, a Horizon Europe project that aims to design and test a digital and green laser texturing approach to generating complex multifunctional surfaces. With this main objective in mind, we expect your active contribution to the research and demonstration activities of the project, in particular exploring methods and tools for calculating the environmental and economic impacts of products and services.

CONDITIONS
We offer the integration into a dynamic and enthusiastic team for the development of research activities under an unspecified fixed-term employment contract up to 18 months, possibly renewable following the best international practices. 

We expect you to start from September 2023 and your work will be developed at our facilities at IST Alameda or Tagus Park.
