A call for applications is open for 1 research grant under the project Climate Neutral Cities Network (1018P.06493.1.01), financed by national funds through the Environmental Fund, under the following conditions following conditions:

Scientific Area: Environment and Energy

Admission Requirements: a candidate enrolled in a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related areas.

Required Skills:

  • Experience in Techno-economic Assessment of Low Carbon Strategies: technical knowledge and proficiency in carrying out techno-economic evaluations of various nature-based solutions (NBS) implemented in urban environments;
  • Understanding of Environmental Assessment Methods: experience in carrying out environmental assessments, particularly in assessing the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission mitigation potential of nature-based solutions and nature-based solutions and carbon dioxide removal strategies in urban environments;
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical skills are necessary to detailed assessments and data analysis
  • Communication and Collaboration Skills: Written and oral communication skills in Portuguese and English.

Desirable Skills:

  • GIS Mapping Skills: independent application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools to Information Systems (GIS) tools to map and analyze spatially explicit data related to the potential for nature-based solutions in urban areas. This includes land use assessment, suitability and spatial distribution of NBS options.

Workplan:

Candidates will be integrated into the IN+ Industrial Ecology and Sustainability Laboratory and will participate in the activities of the technical secretariat of Cidades pelo Clima. In this context, the research activities to be developed by the candidates will consist of:

  • Carry out techno-economic evaluation studies of different options for nature-based solutions for application in urban contexts;
  • Assess the potential for mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with each nature-based solution investigated;
  • Develop models and methodologies for the cost-benefit and feasibility analysis of nature-based solutions.
  • Map the potential for implementing nature-based solutions using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools.

Workplace: The work will be developed at IN+ Center for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research of Instituto Superior Técnico, uunder the scientific supervision of Professor Joana Portugal Pereira.

Duration: The grant will last for 6 months, starting in November 2024, renewable up to a maximum of 12 months, including the duration of the initial contract.

Monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant is € 601.12. payment method is by Bank Transfer.

Selection methods: The selection methods will be as follows: Curriculum evaluation (100%), with the possibility of possibility of an individual interview for the candidates with the best curricular assessment. In the curricular assessment, the following factors will be assessed: CV (50%) and Motivations (50%). After the candidates' candidates, an individual interview may be carried out. 50% weighting and the curricular assessment will have a 50% weighting in the final classification.

Announcement/ notification of the results: The final evaluation results will be communicated to all applicants by email.
