Research Assistants for Climate Neutral and Smart Cities

In the framework of the EU Mission “Climate Neutral and Smart Cities”, the Centre for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research (IN+) is looking for (junior/medior) specialists in the following areas:
- Communication & Training: responsible for developing and maintaining a new website; facilitating capacity-building workshops for municipalities; organisation of events; stakeholder engagement and external communication.
- Financing Climate-Neutral Cities: ability to perform cost-benefit analyses (assessing abatement costs); possesses knowledge about climate funding mechanisms (EU funds); support municipalities with investment plans.
- Sustainable Mobility & Transport: ability to analyse and quantify transport emissions; develop strategies and scenarios for low-carbon urban mobility systems.
- Energy Systems: ability to interpret and develop energy models for cities; assess and create scenarios for renewable energy deployment.
We are open to receive applications from candidates with the following profiles:
Qualifications: MSc degree in Environmental Sciences, (Renewable) Energy Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainable Development & Management, or related domains;
Expertise: in climate change and mitigation, experience with modelling is a plus;
Programming Skills: ability to work with Python (position 3 & 4);
Language Skills: proficient in Portuguese and English (spoken and written).
The candidate will be part of the ‘Industrial Ecology and Sustainability Laboratory' group which aims to contribute to sustainable cities through research and knowledge dissemination about decarbonization strategies (e.g. for transport and buildings) and urban metabolism (sustainable resources management). Furthermore, he/she will be part of a dynamic and multidisciplinary team, dedicated to climate action and sustainable innovations at local and national level.
The position will be full-time at our offices at IST Alameda (max. 1 day remote), starting in January 2024 based on a year contract (with possibility to be extended).
