Maximilian Vieweg


PhD Candidate Technology Management and Policy

Maximilian Vieweg is a PhD candidate in Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University and Instituto Superior Técnico, pursuing a dual degree through the CMU Portugal program. His broader research interests include AI Policy, while his current projects use natural language processing to develop computational tools for enforcing consumer protection and antitrust law. Before turning to policy, he studied Marine and Maritime Robotics in Lisbon and Toulon as an Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipient, with fieldwork on autonomous underwater vehicles in Svalbard and the Azores. He also interned at Amazon, where he is listed as an inventor on a US patent. 

Maximilian holds a Master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, a Master's in Engineering of Complex Systems from the Université de Toulon, as well as a Master's in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University. He completed his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering -- Mechatronics at the Vienna University of Technology.
