Joana Fernandes is conducting her doctoral research in Sustainable Energy Systems, at IST, holding an MIT Portugal - FCT PhD grant. Her main focus is the research of theoretical frameworks and methods that may contribute to promote circular design in buildings refurbishments, both in terms of implementing flexibility principles in design, reducing, reusing and integrating construction and demolition waste in the buildings and recycling of buildings materials and end-of-life, while aiming to reduce global warming impact.
Currently part of the team of the Circular EcoBIM project.
