Research Assistant Industrial Ecology and Sustainability

I am a Mechanical Engineering graduate (2023) from Instituto Superior Técnico, with a profound interest in sustainability and decarbonisation. During my Master's Thesis, I developed a Transport Poverty Index for Lisbon, which assessed the accessibility to the public transportation network for all residential buildings in the city. This index also incorporated a cost component to evaluate the financial weight of transportation on household budgets. Furthermore, I explored hypothetical scenarios where households in areas with higher accessibility levels could replace car usage with public transport, thus reducing their mobility expenditure.

Currently, I am working as an Research Assistant on the 'Cidades pelo Clima' project, which aims to support Portuguese municipalities in accelerating carbon neutrality and ecological transition. My responsibilities include developing a Python model that automatically calculates and generates a greenhouse gas emissions inventory for all Portuguese municipalities. Additionally, I am creating a dashboard to visually compare emissions between municipalities and assessing the potential of various decarbonization projects proposed by the municipalities.
