Filipe Mendes holds a degree in Engineering Physics (1989), a MSc in Mechanical Engineering (1994) and a PhD in Physics Engineering (2003), from IST. His academic career started in 1989 as Trainee Assistant at the Department of Mathematics of IST and he is Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics of IST since 2003.
From 1989 to 1993 he worked at the Centro para a Conservação de Energia (Centre for Energy Conservation), later changed to ADENE - Agência para a Energia (Energy Agency).
His research interests focus mainly on thermal behaviour of buildings, solar assisted refrigeration, solar energy and solar energy concentration and simulation of thermal systems.
