SMART Data Sprint 09/11/2018


SMART Data Sprint is an intensive hands-on work, driven by online data and digital methods. During one week, participants will have the chance to attend to keynote lectures, short talks, and parallel sessions of practical labs. Afterwards, experts and scholars will invite participants to join projects and work in a collective problem.

Miguel Amaral, from IN+, together with Elsa Caetano from iNOVA Media Lab, will address the project Frugal Innovation. Other confirmed projects include: Journalism Apps, Health myths’ circulation on social media and Interrogating Vision APIs.

Richard Rogers (University of Amsterdam), director of Digital Methods Initiative and author of Digital Methods (MIT Press, 2013) will be the keynote speaker, and will focus on Critical Analytics as an alternative form of study and critique web engagement. An International team of senior researchers, including Richard Rogers, and several doctoral researchers will also be leading Short Talks and Practical Labs, which will contemplate themes such as: Query Design, Data Extraction Tools, Querying App Stores, Network Analysis with Gephi, Image Networks, YouTube Data Analysis, Text Analysis with Antconc and Voyant Tools, Raw Graphs and Visual content analysis with Image Plot.

SMART Data Sprint 2019 will take place between January 28th and february 1st 2019. The deadline for applications is January 13th 2019.
