Paulo Ferrão appointed Chair of the EU Mission: Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities 02/03/2026

On February 26, the European Commission has formally appointed Paulo Ferrão as Chair of the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities EU Mission Board, with immediate effect. This nomination comes after he served as Acting Chair during almost a year and a half. 

This nomination was based on the outstanding leadership demonstrated during his tenure as Acting Chair for almost a year and a half, since October 2024, delivering with efficiency, tact and vision, and guiding the Board’s work with clarity of purpose. His ability to facilitate thoughtful discussion, build consensus and maintain strategic focus was greatly valued.
