Joint statement by leading European organizations calls for enhanced European research and innovation 13/02/2025


In a joint statement, major European research and innovation organizations, like CESAER, EARTO, ERT, EUA, LERU, Science Europe and The Guild, have called for a significant boost in support for research, development and innovation to address Europe's pressing challenges and enhance global competitiveness.

The statement emphasizes the need to place research, development, and innovation at the heart of Europe's economy to close the innovation gap, advance competitiveness, and enable green and digital transitions. 

The Letta report on the future of the Single Market, the Draghi report on European competitiveness, the Heitor report on research, technology and innovation, and the Niinistö report on civilian and military preparedness, collectively underscore the critical need for a strengthened European approach to research, development, and innovation. 

The statement calls for a robust European framework programme supporting the entire research, development, and innovation continuum, from fundamental research to market-ready solutions, and a substantial increased budget. It also advocate for simplified regulatory frameworks to reduce transaction costs and enhance collaboration. The organizations urge the European Commission, Council, and Parliament to prioritize research, development and innovation.
