Carla Pepe Lewark, former IN+ researcher, will receive the Lourdes Pintasilgo Award under the Role Model category. The public ceremony will take place on 26 November, at 5 p.m., at Técnico Congress Centre, Alameda campus.
Carla Pepe Lewark has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from IST and took part in the MIT Portugal PhD Program: Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing - Leaders for Technical Industries, which she completed in 2012. As part of her PhD, she did a 7-month internship at Rolls-Royce in England, where she was invited to stay.
Currently, she is CEO at Aero Gearbox International, a 50/50 joint venture established by Rolls-Royce plc and Safran Transmission Systems to design, develop, produce and support the Accessory Drive Train (ADT) transmission system for all future Rolls-Royce civil aerospace gas turbine engines.
Created by Técnico in 2016, this award intends to promote gender equality, to recognise the crucial role of women in engineering areas, and to honour Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo’s outstanding contribution as an engineer, alumna and national leader with a decisive role and impact on Portuguese society.
