Align, act, accelerate - Research, technology and innovation to boost European competitiveness 19/10/2024

A group of experts, chaired by Manuel Heitor, was tasked with advising the European Commission on the next Framework Programme for research and innovation. The report 'Act, Align, Accelerate: Research, Technology and Innovation to boost European competitiveness' is an evaluation of Horizon Europe for the period 2021 to 2027 with 12 strategic recommendations to ensure that Horizon Europe remains competitive and aligned with emerging global challenges. It proposes a number of transformative actions for the remaining three years of FP9 - Horizon Europe (2025-2027), and also to adequately prepare the next Framework Programme (FP10), which will run from 2028 to 2034.
The recommendations aim to increase the program's impact by proposing an approach in four main spheres:
- competitive excellence in science and innovation;
- industrial competitiveness;
- responding to societal challenges; and
- strengthening the European RD&I ecosystem.
