Anabela is a doctoral student in Engineering and Public Policy at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Lisbon, Portugal, expected to finish by October 2017. Anabela research uses the establishment of Embraer manufacturing facilities in Portugal in 2010 as motivation to explore pathways towards the creation, development, and accumulation of technological capacity in aeronautics. During her PhD studies, she integrated the International Risk Governance Council (IRGC) network, and she was a visiting student at Instituto Técnológico de Aeronáutica (Brazil), and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US). She earned a Masters in Aerospace Engineering from IST in 2012. She did a summer course in Further Statistics for Economics and Econometrics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (UK) in 2012. She also worked as a researcher at the Statistics and Prospective Unit of IST, supporting the development of statistical analysis on higher education data in 2011-2012. Her research activities include the development of a high altitude balloon project that can be used as a low cost platform that executes scientific missions in a near-space environment (BALUA), as well as an energy efficiency project that focuses on sustainable measures on IST campus.
