Joana Mendonça


Associate Professor with Habilitation Technology Management and Policy

Joana Mendonça is currently away from IN+ as the president of the National Innovation Agency (ANI). She is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Engineering and Management Department (DEG) - IST University of Lisbon.

Previously, she did research at IN+, where she leaded the Laboratory of Technology Management and Policy. She is a Scientific Director for the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Partnership, and Scientific Coordinator at CEiiA.

Her research focuses on processes of new technology commercialization, industrial development and in the role of skills and human capital in these processes. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, such as Research Policy, Small Business Economics and Technological Forecasting and Social Change.

During 2016, she was an assistant to the Minister for Economy for to Innovation, Technology and Science. Guest lecturer at IST between 2013 and 2015, teaching Technology Based Entrepreneurship, and Public Policy. Integrated the International Risk Governance Council (IRGC) network in 2012. Between 2010 and 2012, she was a Deputy Director at the Directorate for Education and Science Statistics (DGEEC). Assistant to the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education in 2009-2010. Obtained her PhD in Engineering and Industrial Management at IST, University of Lisbon, in 2009.
