Last May 11, Portuguese painter Graça Morais, a major figure in contemporary Portuguese culture with over 50 years of artistic life, was granted with the Honoris Causa Doctorate by The University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD). Manuel Heitor was the artist's godfather at the ceremony.
Graça Morais is one of the great references in the history of European contemporary art. The painter from Trás-os-Montes was awarded, in 1997, with the Degree of Grand Officer of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, by the President of the Republic, Jorge Sampaio, and received, in 2019, the Medal of Cultural Merit from the hands of the Minister of Culture, Graça Fonseca.
