Main international partners and networks
IRGC aims to reach a global community of public and private researchers, corporate leaders and policymakers, while simultaneously ensuring a strong local, contextual and cultural rooting. In order to achieve this aim, IRGC has adopted a decentralised structure, which takes the form of a global, multi-sector network of partners and affiliate organisations that are active in the field of risk governance.
Through the IRGC network, Portugal will gain access to a set of international partners encompassing policy makers, researchers, and international organisations, which would otherwise be unavailable and are paramount to develop a successful risk governance agenda. These include policy makers and government experts in Europe, US and China, as well decision makers from companies such as Oliver Wyman or the Swiss Reinsurance Company.
In addition, IRGC provides a network of experts from leading universities worldwide working in risk governance. Networking with Portuguese researchers is expected to be particularly important in the following institutions:
- Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), US: mainly through the Department of "Engineering and Public Policy" and in areas of energy policy, telecom policy and risk analysis;
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), US: across a wide diversity of groups and departments, including the Engineering Systems Division, in areas of risk assessment and flexible decision systems, the Electric and Computer Engineering departments, in areas of information security, and in bioengineering;
- École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland: mainly in areas of energy policy, of information security and risk analysis;
