Workshop: Situation of Circular Economy in Portugal 04/11/2022

The Workshop Situation of Circular Economy in Portugal will take place on November 4, 2022, at 2 pm, in the Main Auditorium of the IST Congress Center. This event is open to all interested and brings together stakeholders from different areas to discuss the current state of Circular Economy in Portugal.

This workshop is held under the framework of the Action Plan for the Circular Economy (Plano the Ação para a Economia Circular - PAEC) which is being developed by the Portuguese Environment Agency in collaboration with the Instituto Superior Técnico - University of Lisbon, coordinated by Ana Carvalho from CEGIST, and Fernanda Margarido and Paulo Ferrão from IN+.

The PAEC aims to accelerate the transition of the Portuguese economy to a more circular model, in which economic activities do not depend on the extraction of virgin raw materials and the production of waste, thus being in line with the Action Plan for the Circular Economy of the European Union, the Paris Agreement, the EU Industrial Policy Strategy, and the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Circular Economy aims to create a chain in which everything is transformed, and nothing or little is wasted, maximising the economic value of materials, products and services, thus avoiding the consumption of new raw materials and eliminating waste. A maximising concept, Circular Economy is based on several «R», such as Reduction, Reuse, Recovery, Recycling... and Social Responsibility. Because the Environment is not just a problem for a country, but for the world, and the preservation of the Planet is a task for everyone and not just for a few. Circular Economy requires structural planning so that the steps we take today became a marathon won in the future.
