Objectives:

To discuss current initiatives at MIT and the University of Cambridge in the area of Techgnology, Policy and Management.

Particular emphasis will be given to emerging trends on transdisciplinary education and research in engineering schools, with the discussion to be oriented in terms of perspectives and opportunities for Portugal, and for IST in particular..

Main topics for discussion:

  1. Learning by discussing "Technology, Policy and Management" at MIT and Cambridge: current initiatives and main challenges
  2. Recent developments at IST to foster multidisciplinary teaching and research on "Engineering, Technology Policy and Management Sciences": the new department
  3. Learning by comparing undergraduate programmes and courses on "Industrial Engineering, Technology Policy and Management Sciences" in Engineering Schools;
  4. Learning by comparing post-graduate and research programmes on "Technology Policy and Management Sciences" in Engineering Schools
