Engineering Design for Innovation:
Lessons learned and perspectives for Portugal

Objectives:
To discuss sample initiatives in Europe to promote engineering design and product development strategies and to advise on future actions to be taken in Portugal to foster design for innovation. Emphasis will be given to Industrial Design Curriculum Development, Design for Sustainable Products and Sustainable Systems Design, with particular attention to current programmes in Sweden, and The Netherlands. The discussion will be oriented in terms of perspectives and opportunities for Portugal, and will consider the particular aspects of the autoparts industrial sector.
The Workshop is organized in collaboration with the Project INAUTO, "Innovation for the autoparts industry".

Session 1 - Engineering Design: Which needs and specific competences to be developed?

This session will focus on the development of education and research activities aimed to promote design capacity, new product development and growth. Speakers will look at past and emerging forms of developing design capacity for product development, including University-Industry Partnerships on engineering design, as well as at the expected impact of promoting those partnerships on economic growth.
