Workshop Presentation and Objectives:

In recent years, the relationship between new firm formation and economic progress has received considerable attention from scientists and policy makers. Persistently high unemployment rates coupled with limited economic growth have triggered European Union leaders into looking at innovation and entrepreneurship as ways to revitalise the European economy. This workshop presents recent work done by European researchers on the regional dynamics of technological innovation and new firm formation, looking at their effects on employment and business development, and drawing conclusions with regard to policy implications.
